Our old friend Thomas Watson, who posts the online newsletter
"Still in Love With Lucy", has just e-mailed us the heads-up about his latest post from today. In it, Thomas describes how
The Lucy Show will see it's first-ever DVD release in just two weeks! Yes, but not as it's own set, unfortunately. It will be included as a bonus episode on the
September 25th release of
The Untouchables - Season 1, Volume 2.
Don't worry, it's a highly appropriate connection here, as the episode that will be included is the March 14, 1966 broadcast of "Lucy, the Gun Moll," guest starring
Untouchables cast members Robert Stack, Bruce Gordon, Steve London and
Untouchables' unforgettable narrator, Walter Winchell. Here is a summary of this 4th-season episode, courtesy of TV.com:
Federal agent Stack discovers that Lucy is a dead ringer for gangster Gordon's moll and gets her to go undercover in order to recover missing bank robbery loot. This episode was a spoof of the classic TV crime drama The Untouchables which was produced and filmed at Desilu Studios.
Head on over right now to
Thomas Watson's write-up about this cross-over, and see a publicity shot of Lucille Ball (as "Lucy Carmichael") with Robert Stack (who is apparently NOT named as "Eliot Ness" in this
Lucy Show episode...but we all know who he is). Watson has this important message for fans of
The Lucy Show, who would like to see more DVDs:
To my knowledge, this is the first time "Lucy, the Gun Moll" has been released on home video -- and is CBS/Paramount's first experiment with releasing "The Lucy Show" on DVD. I encourage you to support the effort by adding this set to your collection.
